US Court Rules AGAINST FCC On Net Neutrality In Big Win For Comcast
For those who are following the network neutrality debate, here is an article on a recent court ruling that you should take a moment to read. I will give you the spoilers alert, but encourage you to read the article anyway.
Spolier’s Alert – A US federal appeals court reined in the FCC by ruling that it overstepped its authority when it penalized Comcast for surreptitiously disabling a popular technology that let people share files online. The ruling did not quell the commission’s interest in regulating the way Internet service providers such as Comcast manage their networks.

If you are asking the question…what is network neutrality? Here is a wikipedia definition on network neutrality in the United States is a contentious issue. Currently there is general network neutrality in the United States, meaning that telecommunications companies rarely offer different rates to broadband and dial-up Internet consumers based on Internet-based content or service type; however, there are no clear legal restrictions against this. Many broadband services block common service ports, such as port 25 (SMTP) for e-mail servers, or port 80 for HTTP, by the latter preventing consumers from running a website on the standard HTTP port unless they upgrade to a “business” account (a form of price discrimination). In recent years, advocates of network neutrality have sought to restrict such changes.
